Stroud District Council has joined forces with Stroud Library to launch a pilot scheme that aims to help people look smart at job interviews and get into employment.
The Interview Clothing rail will be in Stroud Library through November into early December and will contain high-quality second-hand clothes suitable for interviews which will be available to anyone who has a job interview coming up but can’t afford to buy a smart outfit.
Council Leader Catherine Braun said the new project is important in so many ways: “We want everyone in our district to have the opportunity to go into an interview feeling confident. The scheme has been inspired by Gloucestershire Recycles’ textiles campaign, ‘Wear Not Waste’, and has come at a time when many people are struggling with the cost of living. We hope people will find it useful.”
Stroud District Council’s Council Plan to 2026 prioritises environment and climate change; economy, recovery and regeneration; and community resilience and wellbeing.
Deputy Council Leader Natalie Bennett says it is hoped that this will make a difference to people on their journey to employment:
“The pilot is in line with our work to protect our environment and making our district carbon neutral by 2030,” she said. “However, we hope that this will also strengthen our communities by helping in practical ways to tackle the barriers to employment that unemployed people in our district face .”
