Acclaimed actor Susan Lynch is starring alongside Hollywood icon Mark Wahlberg in Netflix’s upcoming football match-fixing thriller, The Big Fix.
Stroud-based Lynch, best known for her roles in Happy Valley, Killing Eve and A Thousand Blows, is currently filming in Sydney, Australia, alongside Wahlberg.
Lynch is joined by Natalie Dormer, famed for Game of Thrones, and Riz Ahmed, known for Venom, as part of the stellar ensemble cast.
The thriller draws inspiration from real-life events and adapts Brett Forrest’s book into a globe-trotting crime story. The plot follows a former Interpol investigator who now works in a desk role at FIFA, only to uncover a vast match-fixing network operating behind the scenes of international football. The investigation spirals into a high-stakes pursuit involving organised crime, rigged games and corruption spanning several countries.
According to project details, the central conflict focuses on a fixer linked to Chinese Triads who profits from rigging matches worldwide. The film is described as an international thriller centred on a tense cat-and-mouse chase between two determined men operating on opposite sides of the scandal.
Filming is expected to continue through to late June.
