Taverners FC have enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years, climbing into Division 1 of the Stroud League in 2022/23 before finishing runners-up in 2023/24 and securing a strong third place in 2024/25.
Along the way, the club also reached both the County Cup Final and the League Cup Final – achievements that have firmly established them as one of the league’s most competitive and respected sides.
Such success has inevitably attracted attention from higher-level teams, and several Taverners players have stepped up to test themselves in more competitive leagues. While their departures leave gaps to fill, the club is proud to have played a key role in developing players capable of making the leap.
“We would never stand in the way of our players progressing in the game,” said manager Mark Harsant. “It’s a credit to the club, the coaching, and the team spirit we’ve built that our lads are being spotted by higher-level sides.”
However, Taverners also point to a challenge in the league structure that can make retaining talent harder. Division 1 currently offers only one promotion spot each season – a system the club fully respects but believes limits ambitious teams’ ability to rise through the pyramid.
“With two or three promotion places, or a playoff system like you see in other leagues, clubs like ours would have a much better chance to progress and offer players a higher standard of football without them needing to move on,” Harsant added.
Now, as the 2025/26 season approaches, Taverners are ready to rebuild and strengthen. The club is actively recruiting new players to join a talented core, offering competitive football, excellent facilities, a dedicated committee, and a thriving Reserve side with a proven track record of success.
For ambitious players seeking the next step in their football journey, Taverners FC could be the perfect fit.
