Taxi driver attacked in front of ‘Christmas elves’

Police investigating an assault in Gloucester last month are hoping a group of men dressed as Christmas elves may be able to help them with their enquiries.

A taxi driver in his 50s sustained facial injuries when a man punched him in the face at the taxi rank on Station Road at around 11.35pm on Saturday 16 December.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

A man in his 40s from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of assault and later released on bail while enquiries continue.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigating officers believe at least one of the men in fancy dress may have videoed the incident on their phone and police are now asking him to come forward.

They are also asking any other witnesses who may have seen what happened or may have mobile phone or dashcam footage to get in touch.

You can contact police online by completing the following form and quoting incident 501 of 16 December: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/

Alternatively you can submit information anonymously to the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/
