Following the closure of Halfords this week, a new Tesco Express convenience store is set to open in its place.

Tesco have committed to Stroud for 15 years, taking the 5,249 sq ft unit in Merrywalks. Work begins next month, ready for the store opening early next year.

Tesco are investing £1m in to the new unit and creating 20 new jobs. Halfords employed a team of nine people, with six of those having been deployed to their branch in Eastern Avenue, Gloucester.

The new store will offer free parking for up to 16 cars outside the store.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “We are delighted to be working with Tesco to bring a convenient food offer to our local community, along with creating a number of new jobs for the area.”

Five Valleys shopping centre was purchased by Dransfield Properties in 2018 and has seen close to £30m investment.
