A tribute exhibition to respected former Stroud College photography tutor John Stadnicki, who sadly died in August last year, has been organised by photographer and artist’s model Nikoletta Monyok who worked with John at SGS College.
The photographs are a selection taken by students, many with Nikoletta as the model in the Stroud College Studios. Former students have added their tributes.
As a thanks to John the opening included a showing of Nikoletta’s silent film 無常 (mujō) made up of mainly black and white self-portraits with improvised music by Simon McCorry. It reflects impermanence, transience, mutability. It is an invitation for self-discovery. The work is a dance between the physical self, the emotional self, the conscious self, and the spiritual self. How it is all one being.
Nikoletta commented: “John was one of those educators who cared about and believed in each student and taught from the heart. He was genuine and honest in his approach to teaching.”
The exhibition continues at Studio 18 until Friday, September 1st when there will be another showing of Nikoletta’s 30-minute film on Friday at 7.30pm.
