The seed entrepreneur leading a wildflower revolution

Entrepreneur Max Mancroft believes growing something beautiful shouldn’t be complicated, intimidating or reserved for people with perfect gardens. It should be joyful, accessible and fun.

That belief is what sparked Seed Revolution, a fresh new way for a whole generation to reconnect with nature, one seed packet at a time.

Whether you’ve got a garden, a balcony, a patio, or just a sunny windowsill, Seed Revolution is about making growing feel effortless. Rip open a packet, scatter the seeds, and let nature do the rest. No rules. No pressure. Just the simple thrill of watching something grow.

Born out of Max’s Gloucestershire countryside upbringing in Wotton-under-Edge, and shaped by a desire to escape a career in corporate finance in London, Seed Revolution was created to feel nothing like the seed brands of the past.

Instead of dusty packets hidden in sheds, these seeds are designed to be seen. They’re bold, colourful, playful, and proudly Instagram-friendly. They’re the kind of thing you’d happily gift, slip into a card, or leave on display.

And people are responding. Gardening has quietly become cool again, especially among under-35s who discovered the joy of growing during lockdowns. From eco-conscious consumers to food lovers dreaming of homegrown veg, Seed Revolution speaks to anyone who wants to do something meaningful, without needing expertise or acres of land.

At the heart of the brand is a love for wildflowers. With 97% of Britain’s wildflower meadows lost since the 1930s, Seed Revolution offers native favourites like poppies, cornflowers and daisies – all seeds chosen for real British soils and real-life growing spaces.

Scatter them in a corner of your garden or a neglected patch nearby, and you’re not just growing flowers, you’re helping nature bounce back.

Max, 27, said: “Nature is in crisis but we know people, especially younger people, want to grow. The problem is that the seed industry is still stuck in the 1950s, a vast yet stagnant multi-billion-pound industry dominated by legacy brands, with almost no consumer-facing innovation.

“We’re on a mission to change that and to disrupt the market one seed packet at a time.

“We’re making seeds exciting and ridiculously easy for a whole new generation of growers. We’re doing this with branding that cuts through, playful, vibrant packets made for the Instagram shelf not the back of the shed, and at great prices – because it shouldn’t have to cost a lot to have a garden you can be proud of.

“We’re offering a diverse range of seeds for different soils and situations, emphasizing native British species like poppies, cornflowers and daisies. Our movement, though, is not just focused on ecological restoration through simple actions.

We’re also redefining seeds as gifts of potential – helping people connect with nature through small packages that hold the promise of growth, enjoyment and connection. Our packets of seeds are a perfect gift and fit snugly inside a card.

“More than anything, Seed Revolution is about potential. Each packet is a tiny promise of colour, calm, connection, and pride. A reminder that even small actions can make a difference. Reconnecting with nature only takes a seed.”
