MOST READ

We’re already half way through the school summer holidays, but thankfully Stroud is digging deep to keep us all entertained this week, with magic shows, pirate map making and tree walks. Plus for ticket holders Gifford’s Circus has popped up on Minchinhampton Common for its annual sell-out run.

For older attendees there’s a talk at Stroud Library on the history of Stroud Rugby Club, a second hand sale at Stroud Brewery, an open mic afternoon at the Prince Albert and a new artist residency at SVA’s John Street Gallery.

Regular and one off events

John Parker from the Arboricultural Association leads a special tree walk along the Wallbridge-Dudbridge path, with support from Rodborough Parish Council. John will help with identifying trees en route, as well as identifying the nature they support and some of the challenges they face.

Magician and entertainer Phil brings his non-stop magical mayhem to Stroud Brewery for a morning performance aimed at children aged 3 – 7, but open to all. Expect magic tricks, puppets and high energy clowning. Booking recommended.

As part of the Gloucester Rugby Older People Programme, Stroud Library hosts this special free talk about the history of Gloucester Rugby Club. Booking required, refreshments provided.

Brimcombe Mill’s summer holiday activities continue throughout August and Thursdays are adventure day, this featuring a pirate map making session. For lunch, the Long Table will also be laying on pay-as-you-can jacket potatoes and mini kids smoothies.

ReLoved Club and Stroud Brewery & Taproom lay on this pre-loved pop up market at the Stroud Brewery taproom.  Expect specially selected second hand & vintage clothes and organic beer brewed on site.

Stroud’s best music pub launches a new open mic session taking place on Sunday afternoon. Expect a relaxed and welcoming environment for those still finding their stage feet, but with all the equipment, lighting and background knowledge to make you feel like a star.

Beginning this week

Akira Roe takes up residency at the SVA’s John Street Gallery, using the gallery space where he will be creating large-scale experimental paintings using paint rollers. The gallery is open Friday and Saturday, 10am – 3pm, and at all other times you can have a good gawp through the window.

Further afield

This special travelling show taking place in Cirencester Park is aimed exclusively at dogs and their people. Attendees can enjoy dog show competitions, have-a-go activities, performances, puppies and more.
