What’s on in Stroud this week and beyond: Feb 2 – 8
Spring is just around the corner and it’s another busy week for Stroud’s community event organisers, with a beer festival at the Prince Albert in Rodborough, Shakespeare at the Sub Rooms and a literary event at the Painswick Centre.
Plus, swing dance in Dursley, bike bits in Nailsworth and the dawning of snowdrop season at Painswick Rococo Garden where the gardeners are ready and waiting for the crowds to enjoy displays of around five million flowers.

Regular and one off events
- Build Lego at Stroud Brewery – Wed 4 Feb, 4.30pm
Lego creators are well-catered-for at this free, family-friendly event which takes place weekly upstairs in the balcony bar at Stroud Brewery. Lego provided and food and drink available from downstairs.
- Watch Twelfth Night at the Sub Rooms – Wed 4 Feb, 7pm
The Sub Rooms hosts a screening of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2017 production of Twelfth Night. William Shakespeare’s shipwreck comedy is believed to have been written in the early years of the 17th century as a Twelfth Night entertainment for the close of the Christmas season, and this production directed by Christopher Luscombe, casts Adrian Edmondson as the hapless Malvolio and Kara Tointon as love interest Olivia.
- Learn about healing animals in Painswick – Thu 5 Feb, 7:30pm
The latest installment of the Painswick Centre’s First Thursday literary series sees Jay Griffiths discuss her 2025 book, How Animals Heal Us. Griffiths is known for her work on wildness, childhood and protest over the last 25 years.
- Dance swing in Dursley – Fri 6 Feb, 8pm
The Just Jive Lindy Hop team leads this special session at the spacious sprung dancefloor at the Chantry Centre in Dursley. Jim will bring the tunes and a licensed bar will be available.
- Attend the Albert Winter Beer Festival – Thu 5 – Sun 8 Feb
Lotte and Miles and the Prince Albert team throw their first winter beer festival, with ales, milds, winter warmers, stouts, porters and specials on offer, and food available all weekend. Plus Six Nations rugby on the big screen and music from London Gypsy Folk Punk ensemble the Great Malarkey on Saturday night.
- Pick up a bargain at Nailsworth Bike Jumble – Sat 7 Feb, 10am – 12noon
Scott Chalmers organises Nailsworth’s first bike jumble sale of 2026, at Nailsworth Town Hall, offering free entry for buyers and browsers and the chance to pick up a bargain.

- See the snowdrops at Painswick Rococo Garden – Until Sun 1 Mar
It’s peak season at Painswick Rococo Garden as the garden’s five million snowdrops come into bloom. Boasting one of the country’s finest displays of naturalised snowdrops, including the Galanthus Lyn, discovered in the woods near Cirencester in 1981 by Lyn Sales. Such is the popularity of this annual staple that booking is highly recommended.

- Swim beneath the Sun – Until Sun 8 Feb
It’s the final week of Luke Jerram’s Helios artwork – a seven-metre sculpture of the Sun, made from 400,000 photographs of the solar surface – being on display above the waters of the Jubilee Pool in Knowle, south Bristol. The programme is raising money to replace the roof and add solar panels at the community-run swimming pool and includes special swim and spectator sessions with dimmed lights and music.
