Teenager Candice Bomberg has been crowned the U18 slalom champion of Great Britain.
Topping a remarkable season, in her first year as a senior ski racer, the sixteen-year-old was third at the British Championships in Tignes, France and next British skier behind GB’s No.1 Slalom expert and double Olympian Charlie Guest.
Candice’s goals and ambitions are to work her way up the world senior rankings, eyeing the World Junior Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival next season and then onwards to Europa and World Cup Skiing Events, before aiming to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy when she will be only 20.
Candice said of her monumental season: “As a 16-year-old it’s a tough step up into the world of International FIS Ski racing, but it has been a great first season at this level. I am really pleased with the progress made and all is going in the right direction at this stage of my skiing career.”
Although Candice is based and trains in the French Alps, she visits Gloucestershire regularly, improving her speed, agility, and reflexes by catching chickens in the backyard of the family home in Eastington.
Pre-Covid, Candice was the U14 Slalom Champion of France where skiing competitions are fiercely competitive. The sport runs in the blood with her father Tim, a former Maidenhill pupil, representing Britain in the Winter Sport of Biathlon and dual nationality have meant Candice is now also competing Internationally for GBR.
