Shortwood Reserves 2 Meadow Park 1 – UHL Hellenic League
Shortwood first team player Nathan Marks took charge of the reserve team on Saturday and inspired them to a brilliant final day 2-1 win over Meadow Park, writes Jim Cunneen.
Marks said: ” I could not be prouder of the team, today – they listened and did everything that was asked and got a great result.”
In a pulsating game, Kieran Simmonds had an early chance to score when through one-on-one and it took an excellent save from keeper Mundle to deny him while at the other end, Toby Colliver did well to block Parnell.
Wood took the lead after 38 minutes when Rupert Beecham flicked home a corner before Park’s Jarvis hit the outside of the post.
Odia Coly had a header saved and Colliver went close with a free kick. Just before the break Alex Freeman tipped over a header.
Meadow Park levelled after 49 minutes. Freeman tipped round a header, but Burford scrambled home the resultant corner.
Wright went close after good work from Odia Coly before Wood scored the winner with 20 minutes to go as Colliver powered home a header at the far post.
