What’s on in Stroud this week: 9 – 15 March
There’s plenty to see and do in the Stroud Valleys this week, with the continuation of Stroud Film Festival, art at the Museum in the Park and Lansdown Gallery, a pre-loved sale at Woodchester Primary School and a creative session at Brimscombe Mill.
Plus, further afield it’s the Cheltenham Festival this week, and Stroud Valleys Project hosts a special tree-planting day in Coaley.

Regular and one off events
- See Lost for Words at Hawkwood – Thu 12 Mar, 7pm
Head up to Hawkwood as part of the Stroud Film Festival for a showing of Lost for Words, a documentary inspired by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris’ acclaimed book, the Lost Words. The film is set across the landscapes in the UK, exploring the language of nature and the need to reconnect with the natural world, and the screening is preceded by a pre-screening supper at 6.30pm.
- Watch a film at Wick Flix – Fri 13 Mar, 7pm
Painswick’s biggest cinema night returns for March with 2025 satirical black comedy The Roses, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman. Tickets are available for these sociable and well-produced screenings in advance or on the door and include a small glass or wine, ale or a soft drink.
- Create at Brimscombe Mill – Sat 14 Mar, 10am
Join the Let’s Create team for one of their regular drop-in creative play sessions at Brimscombe Mill, offering calm, unstructured, child-led making for all ages. Come prepared to be creative, with as many ideas as you can fit into the two hour session.
- Plant trees in Coaley – Sat 14 Mar, 10am
Stroud Valleys Project invites all comers to join a tree-planting morning, helping to create a new hedge at Far Green in Coaley. The hedge will contribute to biodiversity and create a wildlife corridor across previously open land, linking existing hedgerows.
- Buy pre-loved items at Woodchester School – Sat 14 Mar, 1pm
This pop up sale in the school hall at Woodchester Endowed C of E Primary School specialises in clothes, toys and homewares, being sold to raise funds for the school’s outdoor areas. The event includes a craft area for kids and a secret Mother’s Day wrapping area.
- Celebrate 20 years of the GPC – Sat 14 Mar – Sun 26 April
Following the box-office success of their Robert Race show, the Museum in the Park team continue their good work with a special exhibition celebrating 20 years of the Gloucestershire Printmaking Cooperative, and 25 years of the Museum in the Park. More than 40 GPC members will be creating and exhibiting works inspired by the museum’s collections and surroundings.

- See botanical art at the Lansdown Gallery – Wed 11 – Sun 22 Mar
Kicking off this week at Lansdown Gallery, Natura is a show of botanical art from seven artists with a specific interest in creating works inspired by the beauty and wonder of nature. Each artist has a different style and approach to depicting nature, from Jacqueline Hammond’s floral landscapes to Alice Hutt’s works inspired by the patterns, textures and shapes of the natural world.

- Watch the horses at the Cheltenham Festival – Tue 10 – Fri 13 Mar
One of the biggest horse racing festivals in the greater Cheltenham area returns for its annual four-day run. Join the Guinness-quaffing masses at Cheltenham Racecourse to watch an event that is second only to the Grand National in terms of prize money.
