A lengthy road closure is set to come to an end.

A six-month repair commenced in January to rectify long term subsidence on Rushmire Hill, where the B4058 meets Old London Road – north of Wotton-under-Edge.

Road resurfacing work commenced today, Monday. The road is due to reopen next month, July 4.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said the six-month completion date is on target: “The B4058 on Rushmire Hill has been affected by cracking and subsidence since 2016. This essential scheme will stabilise and strengthen the road to ensure its long-term safety to all road users.

“The main phase of the works has involved the installation of a sheet pile wall approximately 255 metres long, with piles extending to depths between seven and ten metres. This has now been installed and will help to stabilise and strengthen the road.

“The scheme, which started January 6 and is scheduled to take approximately six months, is progressing well and remains on track.”
