Tributes have flowed to a former mayor of Nailsworth, who sadly passed away this week.
Popular Sue Reed, the mother of triple Olympic gold medal winner Peter, was described as a ‘dedicated volunteer’ to the community she served.
“Sue sadly passed away peacefully this week, at home with her family,” said Cllr Steve Robinson, County, District and Town Councillor for Nailsworth
“Nailsworth has lost a dedicated volunteer in its community.
“She became a Town Councillor at Nailsworth Town Council in 1989, where she served as mayor and chaired many committees and also served on Stroud District Council.
“She helped start the Nailsworth Festival and so many people and organisations have benefitted from the support which Sue has given to their organisations over many years.
“Up until her recently, Sue was still working at Ruskin Mill where she has worked for many, many years in different roles, most recently she was responsible for the training of the staff throughout its organisation.
“She was immensely proud of her three grown up children, including Peter. She travelled with her husband Leo to support her son during his rowing career, which saw him win three Olympic gold medals.”
Sue is survived by her husband Leo and children Peter, Sarah and Robert.
A private funeral for family reflection is due to take place on Thursday. There will be a planned community event to celebrate Sue’s life, work and contribution in April.
