Shortwood 0 New Dales Vale 2
Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup 2nd Round
Shortwood went out of the supplementary cup at Meadowbank to a competitive New Dales Vale side.
This may prove a blessing in disguise with fixtures coming thick and fast, with a depleted Wood squad hit by injury and unavailability.
This was an odd game as Wood dominated long periods off the first half and the Worcestershire side scored very much against the run of play but the second half was less clear-cut.
Wood were dominant early on and creative and Pepa smacked the bar with outstanding Vale keeper Farnworth well beaten.
It was a shock when Vales took the lead after 12 minutes, but Krol hit a terrific shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner.
Wood pressed and pressed but conceded a second goal after 26 minutes in controversial fashion. Colliver was fouled near the touch line and the referee only gave Vale a throw in and as Wood lost concentration, Quintas scored from close range.
Dan Wright and Earle looked dangerous going forward and Farnworth was called on more than once, but reserved his best for a fine double range close save after 34 minutes. Grant headed a good chance for Vale wide just before the break.
Within 2 minutes of the restart, Wood had a strong appeal for a penalty for hand ball.
Farnworth made a terrific save from Earle and as players tired, the game developed into a midfield battle, but with 20 minutes to go the introduction of Lewis Fogg spurred Wood on, but the closest they came saw Wright have a shot blocked.
Shortwood: Muir, Marks K, Barrett, Byrnes (Fogg70), Pepa, Colliver, Earle, Eakers (Peyton 45), Wilton (Bowes 58), Harper – Emerson (Jahvon Davis 80), Wright
