Shocked by television news reports of a famine in Ethopia, musicians Bob Geldof and Midge Ure brought together the top artists of the time and recorded the iconic Band Aid charity single, Do They Know It’s Christmas?
Recorded on November 25th, 1984, this year marks the 40th anniversary of its release.
The single famously featured stars such as Bono from U2, Boy George, Phil Collins, Bananarama, Simon Le Bon, George Michael and many more.
Stroud-based photographer Steve Hurrell tells Faye Hatcher how he played a part in the recording of the iconic song whilst working for film production company Tattooist International by taking behind-the-scenes photos during the recording.
Since his retirement Steve has concentrated his photographic skills on wildlife photography in and around Stroud and sells prints and greetings cards at The Shambles Indoor Market, Stroud, on the second and fourth Saturday each month.
