Keep an eye out for Jason Ford, who is now regarded as one of the best target shooters in the UK.
Showing a forthright mentality towards adversity, the visually-impaired shooter and a current GB International finished third in last year’s a para shooting World Cup and is currently the UK’s national number one in the 10m air rifle discipline,
Ford, who is clinical director of Stroud Sports Clinic, told Stroud Times: “In the world of competitive shooting, precision, control, and mental fortitude is paramount. For a visually impaired marksman, these qualities take on an even greater significance.

“The sport has been one of adaptation, resilience, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible – breaking barriers in competitive shooting.”
Shooting as a visually impaired athlete presents unique challenges, but thanks to advancements in adaptive technology and a strong determination to succeed, Ford has been able to compete at the highest level. Instead of relying on traditional sight, he use an acoustic aiming system, which translates visual information into sound, allowing him to pinpoint his target with precision.

“I am setting my sights on the highest podiums in the world”
This innovative approach not only levels the playing field but also demonstrates the incredible potential of athletes with disabilities in precision sports.
Ford added: “My journey has not just been about competing—it has been about proving that impairment is not an obstacle to excellence.”
Behind every great shooter is a meticulously crafted rifle, and Ford shoots with a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 800X. Feinwerkbau is renowned for its precision engineering.
Ford said: “For a visually impaired shooter, the rifle’s consistency and stability are essential, as they provide a reliable platform to pair with my adaptive aiming system.
“The game-changer in my shooting is the Eco Aims VIS 500 adaptive aiming device. This system converts visual information into audible tones, allowing me to “hear” the target rather than see it.
“This combination of technology and skill enables me to compete at the highest level, proving that with innovation and perseverance, anything is possible.”
Ford is now targeting global success, he added: “As I continue to compete nationally and internationally, my goals are clear. I aim to maintain my dominance as the UK’s top 10m shooter, climb to the number one world ranking and inspire other visually impaired athletes to pursue shooting and competitive sports.
“Shooting is not just about vision; it is about precision, control, and mental discipline. Through my journey, I hope to demonstrate that excellence is achievable regardless of physical challenges.
“With my Feinwerkbau 800X, the Eco Aims VIS 500, and a relentless drive to succeed, I am setting my sights on the highest podiums in the world. The target may be invisible to my eyes, but in my mind, it has never been clearer.”
