Hexagon Theatre Company are excited to be bringing ‘The Children’ by Lucy Kirkwood to the Cotswold Playhouse, writes Mary Moore.
‘The Children’ was acclaimed as one of the top three plays in the Guardian’s recent Best Theatre Shows of the 21st century.
Two retired nuclear scientists are living quietly in an isolated cottage on the coast, making the best of life, as the world around them crumbles. Then an old friend arrives with a disturbing and challenging request.
Beautifully written, it’s a play that looks at big issues, in a small setting, with crackling dialogue and plenty of humour. A play about social responsibility and how the people of the future will respond to our past and present actions.
Lucy Kirkwood has built a reputation as one of the leading playwrights of her generation with such varied work as Chimerica and Mosquitoes and The Welkin which was a success at the Cotswold Playhouse last year.
