What’s on in Stroud this week: 22 – 28 September

It’s the last full week in September already, and with a sunny forecast and plenty of autumnal colour showing in the woods up and down the five valleys, it’s a great time to get out and about in the Stroud area.

There is also plenty to see and do at venues across the district, and this week’s seasonal highlights include apple pressing in Dursley, a harvest festival at Stroud Community Agriculture, a bear hunt in Bussage and a Caribbean sound journey at the Chapels of Rest.

Find out more in our regular look at things coming up in Stroud and the wider district. To suggest an event for inclusion, use this form.

Regular and one off events

The Chantry Centre Garden in Dursley’s Long Street hosts a free apple pressing event, offering the chance to press surplus apples to become juice. Bring your own apples and containers and allow extra time for tea and cake at the garden café.

The annual Bussage Bear Hunt returns, with a trail of bears beginning and ending at Bussage Primary School where participants are invited to collect their maps, and return them at the end for a prize. The day also promises stalls, a bouncy castle and a raffle with some great prizes.

The Stroud Community Agriculture team celebrate the season with bring and share food, music, farm tours and workshops for all. Plus kids activities and singing around the bonfire for those in the mood to do so.

The biggest silver band in the whole of Wotton-under-Edge throws a special family-friendly concert with popular tunes from well-loved films. The event takes place at Wotton Baptist Church and features the first ever public performance of Wotton Family Brass.

Stroud-based sound artist, documentarist and anthropologist Louise Romain invites us all to take a one-night journey to the exotic shores of the Colombian islands of San Andres, Providence and Santa Catalina. Hosted within the Chapels of Rest at Bisley Road Cemetery, the event features a short play, the chance to hear an audio documentary and free cups of tea.

The team from Swingbytes Dance host a special swing dancing evening in the balcony bar at Stroud Brewery, with music from Jim and enthusiasts of all different swing dance styles welcome.

Continuing this week

The 150mm challenge touring exhibition continues for its second week at Pangolin Gallery in Chalford, celebrating the diverse application of forged steel. Conceived by Ambrose Burne, the exhibition features work displaying the vast array of artistic applications of forged steel.
