Tickets are now available for the Nailsworth Festival.
On Saturday, May 21, Ken Wood and The Mixers will bring their own unique blend of bold, brassy soul, stomping R&B and ludicrous on-stage antics. They will be presenting “Amazing Stories of Blues and Soul” the Mixers’ very own big stage show – a breathless musical journey to discover the roots of soul. G&T Blues will provide support.
The headline act for the Festival is the Brodsky String Quartet, returning to Nailsworth on Saturday, May 28, as part of their 50th-anniversary tour. Since forming in 1972, they have retained a pre-eminent position amongst British string quartets. Liz Grand is also artist returning to the Festival, with her new one-woman show ‘Where Is Mrs Christie?” on Sunday, May 22. Then on Wednesday, May 25 the Moscow Drug Club will entertain, combining their original material with songs by the likes of Jaques Brel, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits & Eartha Kitt.
This year’s festival includes a number of acts with local connections. Baritone Ralph McDonald, now living near Nailsworth, will be giving a concert on Thursday 26th May. Ralph has performed in many top venues in the UK and internationally in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Brunei. Jonny Fluffypunk from Stroud, is a stand-up poet and lo-fi theatre-maker and will be appearing at the Three Storeys on Friday, May 27. There is a talk from David Bullock, who chairs Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, on conservation around the River Severn and the Forest of Dean and finally, Ruskin Mill will present Rob Harbron, Miranda Rutter and Sam Sweeney. These are three locally based musicians with international reputations.
The festival commences on Saturday, May 21 with free entertainment for all the family in Mortimer Gardens, the ever-popular duck races, a market and many other activities across the town. For a full programme of activities see the Festival website www.nailsworthfestival.org.uk.
Tickets can be booked on the website or at the Town Information Centre in Nailsworth.
