Amy Seager and Liz Whitaker-Seager, directors of award-winning boutique estate agency Whitaker Seager, are delighted to report that the 2026 housing market in the Cotswolds has begun with real momentum, outperforming expectations for this time of year.
Across Stroud, Cirencester and the surrounding villages, buyer activity has surged in the opening weeks of January, reflecting a broader national uplift reported by leading property platforms. Zoopla and Rightmove have both highlighted an increase in applicant registrations, higher levels of enquiry and a notable rise in viewings compared to the same period last year. Trade body Propertymark has echoed this sentiment, reporting improved buyer confidence and stronger early-year engagement from serious purchasers.
Locally, Whitaker Seager has seen a sharp rise in new applicants registering to buy, alongside busy viewing schedules and agreed sales progressing at pace — a clear indication that buyers are keen to act rather than wait.
Liz Whitaker-Street commented: “We’re thrilled to see such a positive start to the year. With the Budget now behind us, Christmas firmly passed, and more competitive mortgage rates available, buyers are committing to making a purchase earlier than we’ve seen for some time.”
She added: “The Cotswolds continues to be incredibly attractive, particularly areas such as Stroud and Cirencester, where lifestyle, connectivity and strong community appeal are driving demand. Viewings are up, applicant registrations are up, and agreed sales are following suit.”
Amy Seager noted that the early surge presents a timely opportunity for homeowners considering a move. “We’d strongly recommend that sellers come to market sooner rather than later. The market has kicked off early this year, and well-priced homes in desirable villages are attracting excellent levels of interest.”
With confidence returning and buyers motivated by improving affordability and mortgage choice, Whitaker Seager expects the local market to remain buoyant as 2026 progresses — particularly for character homes and well-located family properties throughout the Cotswolds.
