Wycliffe Choral Society is anticipating the Coronation of King Charles III in its concert on Sunday, November 27th.
The concert will open with Handel’s Zadok the priest which was written for the coronation of King George II in 1727 and has been performed at every coronation since, and also includes another of Handel’s anthems for the same occasion, The King shall rejoice.
The celebratory theme continues with Vivaldi’s Gloria, the wonderfully
sunny nature of which is characteristic of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal.
The programme also includes Winter from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in
which the solo violinist will be George Ewart and Schubert’s charming Mass in G. The vocal soloists are Hannah Quinn (soprano), Juliet Curnow (mezzo-soprano), William Hamilton-Box (tenor), and Andrew Hopwood (bass) and the conductor is Christopher Swain.
The concert, begins at 7pm in Wycliffe College Chapel, Stonehouse, and tickets, priced £11.50 (U18’s £2.00), may be obtained from Stroud Sub Rooms (Tel 01453 760880), or by telephoning 01453 821350, online at www.wycliffechoralsociety.org.uk or at the door (£12.50/ £2.00).
