Forest Green chief responds to Cheltenham Town link

Forest Green chief operating officer James Mooney has responded to media speculation linking Cheltenham Town director of football Micky Moore with a move to The Bolt New Lawn.

Rovers are believed to have been given the green light to start talks with Moore after losing their sporting director Rich Hughes to Portsmouth last week.

However, Mooney said: “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation.”

Meanwhile, Robins chairman David Bloxham confirmed to Gloucestershire Live: “Forest Green approached us on Tuesday for permission to speak and Micky is interested to have a conversation.

“He is happy at Cheltenham Town and we are keen for him to stay.”

Birmingham-based Moore is a former player with Derby County and Swansea City, who managed Solihull Moors in the National League North before linking up with manager Paul Cox for a number of successful years at Mansfield Town.

During that time Mansfield won promotion back to the Football League and established themselves in League Two while enjoying a memorable FA Cup run in season 2012-13.

He later assisted Marcus Bignot at Grimsby Town and re-united with Cox at Barrow, holding the manager’s job at Holker Street before a brief stint assisting Chester FC.
