Talks are underway to find a new occupier for the former Wilko site at the Five Valleys Shopping Centre.
Dransfield Properties who own the centre, revealed to Stroud Times that they had spoken to a number of potential clients to takeover the empty unit, which shut this week.
A spokesperson for Five Valleys said: “We are in talks with a number of potential occupiers for the Wilko unit and look forward to making some exciting announcements soon.”
The spokesperson also revealed they had offered support to the Wilko staff who lost their jobs following the collapse of the store: “We will fully support the wonderful staff at Wilko in finding alternative employment at Five Valleys where possible, but feel that this does present the centre with an opportunity to bring something new in terms of offer to Stroud.”
Despite the loss of Wilko, the spokesperson said the future for the Five Valley centre is bright: “Extensive refurbishment works are still ongoing, but despite this we have celebrated a raft of new openings over the past 12 months supporting and creating over 350 jobs. We have a brand new Specsavers store opening next week and the last remaining units on our indoor market are now taken, with fit out works underway, bringing the centre to over 95 per cent occupied.
“Customers can still shop a large range of low priced home and beauty products from Home Bargains and Savers, both based at Five Valleys.”
