Many moons ago, a trip to the bank in Dursley used to mean a discussion about a loan or sorting a mortgage application, but how times have changed on Parsonage Street.
When the HSBC bank shut for the final time 11 years ago, Amy Ellis and Tom Burry stepped in and fulfilled a lifelong dream by creating the Bank Café.

And a decade on, Amy and her team are still living the dream as this delightful café goes from strength-to-strength.

We arrived at a busy Bank Café on Shrove Tuesday morning and wanted something filling before reporting on the Dursley Pancake Race – we weren’t disappointed as we perused the extensive breakfast menu.
If a morning cup of coffee is part of your daily routine, you don’t want to risk a bad brew. We both started with a flat white coffee. I know my coffee and this one certainly hit the spot – superb and beautifully presented.

After much deliberation, my colleague opted for the Veggie Bank Robbers Breakfast – a vegan option is also available. His plate featured a vegan sausage, fried egg, beans, two hash browns, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and toast. He didn’t utter a word during his feast, so I knew it was a big 10/10 on his food scoreboard.

I’m not really an avocado fan, but thought I would try something a little bit different. It proved to be the right pick. Chef Lisa was really on the money with this sumptuous offering. Crispy bacon was a perfect bedfellow on a sourdough muffin alongside two poached eggs and the most delicious grilled halloumi cheese.

We were in for one final surprise before our departure to cover Dursley’s annual pancake race. Amy brought out pancakes and bacon – an extra treat for us to enjoy and not an overdraft in sight.
Bank Café take a bow – your food and service is exemplary.
