Wotton-under-Edge hosted its very first Long Street Summer Social and despite gloomy forecasts – and heavy showers a few hours in – thousands of visitors still turned out to celebrate.
With two stages, a family area, a calm zone for children, entertainers, DJs, bands, and 45 stalls, the event drew crowds not only from Wotton but from across the surrounding communities.

“The first few hours exceeded all of our expectations,” said organiser Fred Hulls. “When Wotton-under-Edge, and the District in general, makes plans to be at an event, they don’t let you down! Our incredible team did lots of pivoting in the 48 hours leading up to the day, once we agreed the heavy rain was inevitable, to ensure a safe event for all.”

Organisers reduced the footprint on Market Street, opened additional indoor venues, and relocated the bouncy castle and children’s activities indoors. The adjustments meant visitors could enjoy the full programme without missing out – and without getting soaked.

The Main Stage ran from midday until 8pm, opening with Off Centred, a local school band who earned their slot through a competition. They were followed by a lively mix of acts including Thee Ones, Lauren Walker, Ragstone Dog of Man, Pebble Daisy and Albino Tarantino.

Elsewhere, Kidstown and the Tolsey Stage (featuring DJs of all ages) moved inside but continued throughout the day. The organisers’ own Good Food Kitchen also opened its doors, offering shelter, live music, and a menu ranging from Indian food to steak sandwiches.

The event even attracted political support, with Dr Simon Opher, Labour MP for Stroud, Linda Cohen, District and County Councillor and Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, and Catherine Braun, Deputy Leader of Stroud District Council and Green Party Councillor, all in attendance.

“Despite the weather, the day couldn’t have gone much better,” added Hulls. “Of course we have learned a lot, but a thunderstorm couldn’t shake the foundation of the Long Street Summer Social – and we look forward to making it even better in 2026.”
