On Sunday 9th November at 4pm, the Rodborough Fields and Frome Banks Preservation Group will be holding a public meeting at The Prince Albert pub in Rodborough.
The meeting will update the community on progress toward securing one of the fields and gather feedback to guide the next phase of the acquisition. The group hopes to complete the purchase in the coming months.
Following the acceptance of the group’s offer for Lot 1 (the field between Arundel Drive and the River Frome) in May, the team has been busy raising funds, spreading the word at local events, and establishing a charity – the Rodborough Fields and Frome Banks Preservation Group (charity number 1214461) – to manage and care for the site.
The aim is to bring one of the Rodborough Fields into community ownership, ensuring public access, enhancing biodiversity, and creating educational opportunities.
Earlier this year, more than 40 people joined a special walk in August, which included an update on the campaign’s progress and a poetic contribution from Radical Stroud’s Stuart Butler inspired by the site’s rich history.
John Bloxsom, Chair of the Rodborough Fields Preservation Group, said: “We’re enormously grateful to everyone who’s supported this campaign so far, and we’re hoping to complete the purchase in the coming months.
Our public meeting at the Prince Albert on Sunday 9 November at 4pm will bring people up-to-date with the progress we’ve made so far, and also ask for feedback and comments from the local community to help steer us through the next phase of the purchasing process. Though we are now very close to making community ownership for this important green space a reality, further donations are still required to complete the purchase, meet initial costs, and maintain the land.
“If you would like to support the campaign, please visit rodboroughfields.org.uk and donate today.”
