The Rt Revd Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester, will join author Matthew Teller in a dialogue exploring prospects for a just peace in Israel-Palestine at St Laurence Church, Stroud, at 7.30 pm on Monday 10th November.

The discussion will be moderated by Judith Large. The event, titled Paths of Hope, will take a long-term perspective on opportunities for a fair and sustainable peace for all inhabitants of Israel-Palestine, grounded in equal rights and dignity.

Matthew Teller will present options including a just two-state solution as well as alternative approaches, such as a single state with nonterritorial autonomy. Bishop Rachel Treweek will respond from a Christian faith perspective, drawing on her experience from recent visits to the region, including engagement with Palestinian Christian communities.

Following the dialogue, Judith Large will lead a question-and-answer session, incorporating questions from the audience and her own reflections.

Hugh Richards, organiser of the event, said: “We’re very fortunate to have these two speakers bring their hopes to what can sometimes seem a hopeless situation. Matthew Teller has deep knowledge of the history and cultures of Israel-Palestine and the wider Middle East, while Bishop Rachel brings insights from her recent visits. The evening should be a valuable opportunity to learn about the situation and explore how people here in Gloucestershire can respond in hopeful and constructive ways.”

Tickets are free, but pre-booking online is required, with attendees invited to donate to support the work of the church as the Stroud Centre for Peace and the Arts.
