Forest Green striker Harry Cardwell has re-joined Southend United on loan until the end of the season.
Cardwell initially joined Rovers under former boss Steve Cotterill in the summer of 2024 for an undisclosed fee, but has struggled for game time this season, making just five appearances. The 29-year-old returns to Roots Hall with a view to a permanent deal upon the expiry of his contract at Rovers.
A popular player during his previous spell at Southend, Cardwell made 82 appearances across two-and-a-half seasons, scoring 27 goals and was also the club’s top scorer in the 2023/24 season with 18 goals in 39 games.
Commenting on the move, Rovers boss Robbie Savage said:
“This is an opportunity for Harry to get valuable minutes and play regular football. The loan agreement means he can’t play against us. If players want the chance to play football, my door is open. There are opportunities for others to go, but it’s up to them if they want to take it.”
