What’s on in Stroud this week: 12 – 18 Jan

The weather forecast this week may be damp and cold, but there’s always a warm welcome at Stroud’s community events and groups.

This week’s highlights include a world-literature meet up at Stroud Brewery, a 40-piece nature-focussed choral performance at Copsegrove and a community repair cafe in Nympsfield.

Regular and one off events

If 2026 is your year to write more, join Paula Iley and Stroud Writers Group for one of their regular sessions at Kitsch in Ebley. The sessions are free-flowing with no set activities, designed to work for writers of all kinds and all levels of experience. This is the first of 2026’s fortnightly meet ups.

Borderless Book Club is a new group meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at Stroud Brewery, to read and discuss good books from around the world. Borderless Books was established last year in Stroud to showcase international literature, including fiction in translation, memoir, and travel writing.

Pete Grimshaw, Sam Wooster and Nathan England-Jones’ electronic music project Zyggurat comes to the Sanctuary at Brimscombe Mill, featuring skilful and spontaneous modular synth performances, extended trumpet techniques and organically-flowing drums.

Bisley’s Copsegrove Farm hosts a special performance of WildSong – A Song Cycle for the Earth with Stroud’s own Acapellies Choir, celebrating the Natural World in song. The event is in aid of Mind Song, a Gloucestershire charity helping people with dementia through music and song, and the Bull Pen bar will open from 7pm.

The Campaign for Real Ale in Stroud present their Stroud Pub of the Year award this Saturday lunchtime at the Crown and Sceptre in Horns Road. The members will be on hand to celebrate landlady Rhiannon Roberts and landlord Owen Isserlis over drinks and ale-focussed conversation.

Coaley and Uley Climate Action Network’s first repair cafe of 2026 takes place at a new venue, Nympsfield Village Hall. This time the team will be offering general repairs, tool sharpening and textiles, plus tea and cake.

Continuing this week

The Trinity Rooms’ ever-popular Friday lunchtime cafe offers great food and great company made using surplus food from the farmers market, alongside staple ingredients. Expect hearty, healthy meals on a pay-as-you-can basis, and great conversation with a host of interesting Stroudies.

Further afield

Gloucester Rugby play one of France’s most popular rugby clubs RC Toulon in Group A of the European Rugby Champions Cup this Saturday at Kingsholm Stadium and tickets are still available. You may need to consider the bus back though as the last train is 9.45pm.
