Five key Record Store Day Releases

Idris Muhammad – Kabsha

Most famous for his track Could Heaven Ever Be Place Like This which has been sampled by Jamie XX amongst others. This record has an amazing supporting cast including George Coleman, Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter, and Hugh Lawson. Considered by many to be one of his finest sessions as a bandleader, it features a stripped-back and direct performance of rhythm and melody.

Pink Floyd – Live at LA Sport Arena 1975

The Floyd in their pomp! This four-LP clear vinyl set contains 16 live recordings captured by the renowned bootlegger Mike Millard at the band’s legendary Los Angeles Sports Arena concert on April 26th, 1975. The audio has been lovingly restored and remastered by acclaimed producer and musician Steven Wilson.

Shamans In Space – Nhanderu Tadeu, Guarani and Kaiowá Indigenous Shaman

Can sound take us to outer space? In the ancestral sonic traditions of Guarani and Kaiowá Indigenous communities in Brazil, sound is understood as a powerful technology to dialogue with spirit entities and restore balance with nature – a vehicle for shamanic travel powered by three sacred instruments: the Mimby (whistle), the Mbaraká (rattle), and the Takuapu (a sacred bamboo baton). The Guarani & Kaiowá use no hallucinogens: sound is their sole tool for voyaging between realms.

The collaboration brought together Guarani and Kaiowá elders from Brazil with pioneering UK electronic musicians Youth (Martin Glover) and Matt Black (Coldcut). The result is a truly co-created album; testimony to the power of sound to open dialogues between worlds, making new realities audible, thinkable and possible. Far out…

Olivia Dean – Live At The BBC

Forget Taylor – the smart money these days is on Olivia – this one will fill the queue with young people experiencing digging for vinyl for the first time which is what Record Store Day is all about.

What Dance Is This? UK Post-Punk Dancefloor 1979-1983 Volume 2

A recollection of stone-cold classics from huge & influential post-punk pioneers! They called it white funk once, but here you can even catch Latin, dub and clubby influences, a mutant disco manifesto from a series of British magicians such as Normil Hawaiians, Glaxo Babies, Playgroup, C Cat Trance, Suns of Arqa & Prince Far I and many more. Pressed on clear vinyl. Enjoy the wild party!
