Rodborough Old Boys Football Club has marked a major milestone in its history, securing its first ever County Cup Final victory—15 years after the club was formed.
In a thrilling final on 15 April, Rodborough Old Boys triumphed over Cheltenham United in a dramatic penalty shootout, sealing a memorable win that will go down as a defining moment for the club.
Founded to provide a clear pathway from junior to adult grassroots football, Rodborough Old Boys FC has grown alongside the highly successful Rodborough Youth FC, which now supports over 300 players across all age groups, including boys’ and girls’ teams, with the introduction of the club’s first women’s team set for next season.
The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations from players, staff, and supporters alike. The decisive moment came as Lewis Kerry calmly converted the winning penalty, sending the team into celebration.
Amid the excitement, one moment captured the spirit—and humour—of the occasion. Non-playing squad member Ashlee Newport, overcome with joy, ran onto the pitch to celebrate, only to accidentally collide with and knock over club captain Jack Chudleigh—who also happens to be his work colleague—adding a light-hearted twist to an already unforgettable day.
The victory not only represents silverware for the club but also highlights the strength of its community roots and long-term commitment to developing local football talent.
