Robbie Savage strikes again as Forest Green poised to close in on highly-rated defender

Hemel Hempstead Town have tonight announced the departure of highly-rated left-back Darion Dowrich, who has been heavily linked with a move to Robbie Savage’s Forest Green.

Rovers are understood to have fought off interest from a raft of clubs, including Crawley Town, Barnet and Yeovil. Dowrich is set to become Savage’s second capture from Hemel after signing centre back Kyle Ajayi last week.

A post on X from Hemel Hempstead said: “Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club can this evening confirm the departure of defender Darion Dowrich.

“Darion made a whopping 56 appearances in a Tudor shirt – scoring 2, assisting 2 and bagging 9 Man of the Match accolades over the 1 season!

“It’s been a pleasure to watch Darion grow into the player he is today, and we wish him all the best in his future footballing career. Go well, Dazza.”

Last week, transfer correspondent Peter O’Rourke (@footyinsider247) reported that Forest Green Rovers look set to win the race to sign 22-year-old left-back Darion Dowrich on a two-year deal, with Dagenham & Redbridge, Yeovil, Woking, Chelmsford, Barnet, Boreham Wood and Crawley all having made offers for the out-of-contract Hemel Hempstead defender.

Dowrich,22, only arrived at Hemel last summer from Isthmian Premier Division outfit Cray Wanderers, quickly became one of the standout full-backs in National League South. He made 45 league appearances and contributed six goal involvements during Hemel’s play-off push.
