What’s on in Stroud this week: 29 June – 5 July
The forecast may be slightly cooler for Stroud this week, but there’s still plenty of sunshine and summery weather, and a great programme of community events for everyone to enjoy.
Highlights include a dog show in Amberley, the return of Stroud Sacred Music Festival at St Laurence’s, an ambient music day festival at Brimscombe Mills and a special open garden event in Nympsfield. Plus further afield, Bath’s American Museum and Gardens celebrates American Independence Day on Saturday.

Regular and one off events
- Join Stroud Sea Cadets – Mon 29 Jun, 7.30pm
Stroud’s own Sea Cadets are throwing open the doors for a special evening this week, offering the chance to learn more about the activities, adventures, and opportunities that members enjoy. The organisers promise adventure, personal development, and the chance to meet new people, with sessions centred around their base on Frome Hall Lane in Rodborough.
- Attend Stroud Sacred Music Festival – Fri 3 – Sun 5 Jul
Stroud’s festival of soulful and eclectic religious music returns for 2026, bringing together performances from a number of different traditions. This year’s highlights include American traditional folk hymn singers The Sacred Harp, London-based kirtan singer and virtuoso harmonium player Sulekh Ruparell and a special headline event, Echoes of Eternity: the still point of the turning world, featuring a top tier lineup of performers.
- Celebrate ambient music – Sat 4 Jul, 10:30am – 9pm
This weekend, Brimbscombe Mills hosts Still Point, a day-long festival celebrating experimental and immersive sound. The event features ambient music performances, talks, films, field recording sessions, DJ sets, Q&As and more, bringing together some of the UK’s most respected ambient labels and artists.
- Take a canal cruise – Sat 4 Jul
Cruises depart eight times this Saturday from the Cotswold Canal Trust’s base at Wallbridge Lock, with volunteers taking passengers on a pleasant cruise along the scenic Thames and Severn Canal. Booking in advance is recommended to secure your place on these popular trips on board the Perseverance, a specially-converted narrow boat.
- Visit the gardens of Woodchester Park House – Sun 5 Jul, 12 noon – 5pm
Found off Tinkley Lane in Nympsfield, Woodchester Park House is a large Victorian gothic house dating from the 1850s, and owned by Robin and Veronica Bidwell since 1995. This Sunday they open their three acres of gardens to the public for charity, inviting us to enjoy their extensive herbaceous borders, woodland garden, rose walk, vegetable garden and terrace.
- Meet Amberley’s best dogs – Sun 5 Jul, 2pm
The Amberley Inn hosts its first ever ‘Scrufts’ dog show on the village green, open to dogs from across the village and beyond. Dogs will be judged across nine categories, with half of takings donated to Teckels Animal Sanctuary.

- See Rachel Oldfield’s Stroud Folk – Sat 4 – Sun 26 Jul
Illustrator Rachel Oldfield brings together this new Museum in the Park exhibition, featuring joyful memories of people in the community each transformed into a new Risograph print. Working closely with local people, Oldfield has used their memories to inspire a series of intimate, single-image narratives, in an exhibition that contains personal stories, and moments of connection, comfort, memory, and delight.

- Attend the American Museum Summer Party – Sat 4 Jul, 10am–5pm
In celebration of Independence Day, Bath’s American Museum and Gardens is transformed this Saturday into the venue for a special day-long celebration of US history and culture. Event highlights include country line dancing with Blazing Saddles, a musical performance from vintage pin-ups The Satin Dollz, circus skills, lawn games and an American-style barbecue and ice cream cart.
