The Palestinian flag flying at Ecotricity’s headquarters in Stroud has been replaced by the St George’s flag.
Commuters spotted the flag change at Lion House on Tuesday morning as green energy industrialist and Forest Green chairman Dale Vince replaced the Palestinian flag with the St George’s ahead of England’s World Cup last-32 tie against DR Congo on Wednesday.
Last year, Mr Vince said his decision to fly the Palestinian flag at Ecotricity’s Stroud headquarters was “always legal”, despite objections from Stroud District Council.
The dispute arose in July last year when planning officials told Mr Vince he needed permission to display the flag. He argued the council had “misinterpreted” planning regulations and challenged it to test its interpretation in court.

Writing on X last year, Mr Vince said: “Flying the flag of Palestine was always legal, despite what our local council told us. We challenged them to test their opinion in court and they refused. In the end they just stopped talking to us, waiting, I assume, for the UK to recognise Palestine so that the flag issue would go away. And so it has. But not the flag.”
