Stratford Park Lido remains on course to reopen on 15 August, despite a series of new challenges that have emerged during the refurbishment, according to Stroud District Council.
In its latest fortnightly progress update, the council said the overall programme remains “largely on track”, although possible asbestos-containing material has been identified in mastic around the pool glazing. Samples have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. Paint supply delays and longer-than-expected curing times are continuing to place pressure on the schedule.
The principal contractor is continuing to make steady progress, with weekend working still authorised to help keep the project on target.
The council also revealed that delivery of the new pool circulation pump has been delayed and may not arrive before the planned reopening date. To reduce the risk of further disruption, the existing pump has been removed and sent away for a full refurbishment.
Elsewhere on site, work to refurbish the tiered seating is due to begin after all materials arrive this week, while installation of new stainless steel fixtures is set to start now that all components have been delivered.
Construction also continues on the pool walls and copings as part of the expanded customer access improvements.
The council said recruitment of lifeguards has been successful, with all newly appointed staff having gained the required qualifications ahead of the planned reopening.
A detailed subterranean survey, originally planned as part of the current works, has now been postponed until October. The council said carrying out the survey now would delay completion of the project and the reopening of the lido. Instead, it will be undertaken alongside a planned structural survey later in the year.
The next progress update is expected in two weeks.
