VERSATILE Forest Green defender Dom Bernard has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2022.

The 23-year-old – who was capped at youth-level for the Republic of Ireland – joined Rovers from Birmingham City and agrees a one-year contract at the innocent New Lawn.

Primarily a defensive player but also versatile across the park, Bernard is local to the area – attending Upton St Leonards Primary School and playing for Tredworth Tigers before heading to the Blues academy.

He has made 41 appearances in all competitions since joining the club back in the summer of 2019.

On signing the new deal, Bernard commented: “I’m so happy to be staying with the club next season, especially in these uncertain times – so it’s great to know there’s something there.

“We’re having a good season at the moment so long may it continue. It’s been great here – and I have really enjoyed my time here. We’re going places – and I hope I can make an impact on that.”

Rich Hughes, Director of Football said: “We’re delighted to be able to keep Dom at the football club for another year, he has shown recently the versatility and energy in his play.

“He has been a great success for us since he has been at the club and we are delighted to get this deal done.”
