What’s on in Stroud this week: 12 – 18 Jan
The weather forecast this week may be damp and cold, but there’s always a warm welcome at Stroud’s community events and groups.
This week’s highlights include a world-literature meet up at Stroud Brewery, a 40-piece nature-focussed choral performance at Copsegrove and a community repair cafe in Nympsfield.

Regular and one off events
- Shut up and write at Kitsch – Mon 12 Jan, 3.30pm
If 2026 is your year to write more, join Paula Iley and Stroud Writers Group for one of their regular sessions at Kitsch in Ebley. The sessions are free-flowing with no set activities, designed to work for writers of all kinds and all levels of experience. This is the first of 2026’s fortnightly meet ups.
- Attend the Borderless Book Club – Thu 15 Jan, 6:30pm
Borderless Book Club is a new group meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at Stroud Brewery, to read and discuss good books from around the world. Borderless Books was established last year in Stroud to showcase international literature, including fiction in translation, memoir, and travel writing.
- See Zyggurat at Brimscombe Mill – Fri 16 Jan, 6:30pm
Pete Grimshaw, Sam Wooster and Nathan England-Jones’ electronic music project Zyggurat comes to the Sanctuary at Brimscombe Mill, featuring skilful and spontaneous modular synth performances, extended trumpet techniques and organically-flowing drums.
- Enjoy Wild Song at Copsegrove – Fri 16 Jan, 7pm
Bisley’s Copsegrove Farm hosts a special performance of WildSong – A Song Cycle for the Earth with Stroud’s own Acapellies Choir, celebrating the Natural World in song. The event is in aid of Mind Song, a Gloucestershire charity helping people with dementia through music and song, and the Bull Pen bar will open from 7pm.
- Celebrate the CAMRA Stroud pub of the year – Sat 17 Jan, 12:30pm
The Campaign for Real Ale in Stroud present their Stroud Pub of the Year award this Saturday lunchtime at the Crown and Sceptre in Horns Road. The members will be on hand to celebrate landlady Rhiannon Roberts and landlord Owen Isserlis over drinks and ale-focussed conversation.
- Do your repairs at Nympsfield Village Hall – Sun 18 Jan, 2pm
Coaley and Uley Climate Action Network’s first repair cafe of 2026 takes place at a new venue, Nympsfield Village Hall. This time the team will be offering general repairs, tool sharpening and textiles, plus tea and cake.

- Eat lunch at the Trinity Rooms – Weekly on Fridays, 12:30pm
The Trinity Rooms’ ever-popular Friday lunchtime cafe offers great food and great company made using surplus food from the farmers market, alongside staple ingredients. Expect hearty, healthy meals on a pay-as-you-can basis, and great conversation with a host of interesting Stroudies.

- Watch European rugby at Kingsholm – Until Sat 17 Jan, 8pm
Gloucester Rugby play one of France’s most popular rugby clubs RC Toulon in Group A of the European Rugby Champions Cup this Saturday at Kingsholm Stadium and tickets are still available. You may need to consider the bus back though as the last train is 9.45pm.
