An unmissable charity concert at the Sub Rooms

The Stroud Subscription Rooms are set to host an electrifying night of music as world-renowned Boogie Woogie pianist Ben Waters returns with his band for a special performance on Thursday, September 19th.

This eagerly awaited event, organised by local resident and musician Gerald Fry, promises an unforgettable evening, with all proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy UK and the Stroud Subscription Rooms.

Ben Waters is no stranger to the limelight, having captivated audiences around the world with his dynamic performances. Described by The Guardian as delivering “key-shattering Boogie Woogie,” Waters has shared the stage with legendary artists such as The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis. His concerts are known for their infectious energy, with The Times hailing him as “one of the best pianists in the UK” and Jools Holland describing him as “his favourite pianist of all time”.

Waters’ musical journey has taken him from his early days performing at Stroud’s own Blues Room to prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and the Sydney Opera House, where incidentally he is performing this December. Despite his global success, Ben remains deeply connected to his roots, and his return to Stroud is set to be an evening like no other. Fans, both old and new, will have the chance to experience Ben and his band delivering a blistering set of electrifying, piano-led rock & roll, boogie-woogie, stomping blues, and swing. They will be joined by the talented support act, Savannah Gardner, who is redefining the outlaw country genre with her fresh, new sound.

This special concert came about when Gerald Fry won a competition ticket for a private performance by the Ben Waters Band. Instead of holding a private event, Fry chose to give back to the community by turning the concert into a charity fundraiser benefiting Muscular Dystrophy UK—a leading charity dedicated to fighting muscle-wasting conditions—and the Stroud Subscription Rooms, a cornerstone of the local arts scene.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Ben, together with his band, back in Stroud,” says Fry. “This event is not only about celebrating fantastic music but also about supporting two incredibly important causes. For all those that remember Ben from the Painswick Blues Room days or are discovering him for the first time, this is a show you won’t want to miss.”

Tickets are on sale now, and with Ben Waters’ reputation for delivering unforgettable performances, they’re expected to sell out fast.
