Former Forest Green striker Andy Mangan has been denied a dream move to coach Real Madrid after being refused a work permit.
The current Stockport assistant coach had hoped to swap League One for working under Carlo Ancelotti in the Champions League but because of Brexit regulations his application was rejected. Acquiring a work permit to work in Spain can take up to nine months.
Mangan had been preparing to coach Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and the rest of Madrid’s star-studded side.
Mangan did his Uefa coaching badges alongside Ancelotti’s son, Davide, who is part of the staff at Madrid.
Responding to reports that Mangan has been denied a work permit to coach Real Madrid, Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain said: “This devastating news is just the latest example of Brexit regulations denying Brits the opportunities that once would have been available to them.
“There are stories like this emerging everyday and the Government must do something about it. Whether it’s our amazing touring musicians, those wanting to study abroad or even highly paid sportspeople, too many Brits are having their wings clipped.”
