Police investigating a serious assault in Cirencester at the weekend are appealing for witnesses and information.
Officers were called at around 10.40pm on Saturday (27 September) with a report of an unconscious man in the Market Square.
Officers attended the location outside Café Nero and found a man, aged in his 40s, had sustained serious injuries to his face and head.
The victim was taken by paramedics to Great Western Hospital in Swindon where he received treatment for a bleed on the brain, a head injury, a suspected broken jaw and displaced teeth. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.
A scene guard, which was put in place to allow a forensic examination of the scene, was lifted the following morning and CCTV enquiries have been carried out in the area.
Prior to being found unconscious, it is believed two other men had been involved in an altercation with the victim. They fled the scene before officers arrived.
The first man is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins in height with short, black hair and a full beard. He had tattoos on his face and was wearing black clothing.
The second man was also wearing black clothing and had his hood up.
Witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident reported hearing the men say they were from Swindon.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the incident and identify those involved.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or who may have any information to come forward if they have not already spoken to police.
Anyone with any relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage is also asked to get in touch.
