A fascinating art exhibition opens tomorrow (Thursday) with the work of eight artists who have been invited to create work inspired by the Sharpness Dock area and celebrate the overlooked beauty and interest in the area.
Curated by mixed media artist Lynda Knott, the ‘overLOOKed’ exhibition forms part of the Severn Vale Art Trail and runs from 10am on Thursday until 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday. It is supported by the Canal and River Trust.
“The inspiration is to draw attention to Sharpness – it’s a bit of an overlooked area, it’s at the bottom end of the canal, people sometimes go to Purton but not as far as Sharpness,” explained Lynda.
“There’s lots of fascinating history – the docks and the industry is also interesting. There’s lovely wildlife on the canal and we just want to draw attention to it.”
The exhibition at Luggs Farm, GL13 9UP, also features the work of artists Angela Williams (oil painting); Clare Stephens (ceramics); Grant Sonnex (ceramics); Lynda Knott (mixed media); Nick Quirke (oil painting); Martin Clarke (mixed media); Shirley Sharp (ceramics) and Zachary Knott (photography).
The exhibition will include a display by the Canal and River Trust, and on Saturday, May 2nd at 10.30am there will be a ‘Mindful Photography’ guided walk around the area led by the Canal and River Trust with photographers Zachary Knott and Laura Foster.
