Blood Moon stuns skygazers in spectacular overnight lunar eclipse

Stroud photographer Jeff Horwood captured a spectacular “Blood Moon” lunar eclipse in the early hours of this morning.

The phenomenon occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface and giving the Moon a distinctive reddish glow.

At the peak of the eclipse, at around 5.12am, approximately 93% of the Moon had moved into the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, known as the umbra.

The striking celestial display was visible across much of the UK, with early risers and astronomy enthusiasts taking the opportunity to capture photographs of the rare event.
