Bond keeps Brimscombe grounded ahead of local derby at Stonehouse

Brimscombe & Thrupp manager Tim Bond is keeping his side focused despite their flying start to the new campaign, as they prepare for a short trip to face local rivals Stonehouse Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Lilywhites sit top of the early table after securing maximum points from their opening two fixtures, but Bond is quick to downplay any talk of momentum just yet.

“It’s been a great start to the season for us — two wins from two and maximum points on the board. You can’t really ask for more,” he said. “That said, it’s still very early days. Two games don’t define a season, and it won’t mean much unless we continue to perform and build on this momentum.”

Bond praised the strength of his squad, which has continued to develop following some well-timed signings and the return of several key players from injury.

“The squad is coming together nicely. We’ve had to navigate a few injuries and absences, but credit to everyone involved — we’ve done some excellent business. The new additions have all made a strong start and are settling in well. On top of that, we’ve now got some key players returning to fitness and pushing for places, which is exactly the kind of competition we want.”

Saturday’s trip to Stonehouse promises to be a stern test for Brimscombe, with Bond expecting a typically hard-fought local derby against a Magpies side that have lost their opening two Hellenic League Division West matches.

“We’re expecting a tough, competitive game. Form and league position often go out the window in games like this — both teams will be up for it. Stonehouse have recruited well over the summer and I fully expect them to be in the mix come the end of the season.”

Bond wants his players to focus on producing another strong performance.

“As always, the focus will be on us delivering a positive performance and giving our travelling fans something to cheer about.”
