Facing up to life in the Hellenic League Division One West, Brimscombe boss Tim Bond is relishing the season ahead, starting at home to much-fancied Wantage Town on Saturday, 3pm.
Bond insists the Lilywhites are making progress following relegation last season, he said: “As pre-season draws to a close, it’s clear that we’ve made real progress. In the latter games especially, I think those watching could see just how much the squad has improved — not only in performance, but also in how we want to approach this season tactically.
“It’s been a tough few weeks for the lads, with a particular focus on fitness, and credit to the whole group for the effort they’ve put in. The results on the pitch are already beginning to show.”
Bond has made a number of signings, but has been hit by a raft of injuries, including key man Chalmers Phin, he explained: “We’ve welcomed plenty of new faces over the summer, and it’s been brilliant to see the atmosphere both in the changing room and around the club shift so positively. The energy and togetherness is as strong as it’s ever been.
“Our new additions include: Dan Gayner, Jay Griffiths, Harry Dowling, Travis Wood, Jake Love, James Piatek, Matt Jones, Ryan Outram, and Alex Gayner — a great group of players and people who we’re excited to work with.
“Unfortunately, we’ll be without a few of them for the foreseeable future due to long-term injuries picked up during pre-season: Chalmers Phin, Ryan Outram, and Alex Gayner. All top lads who I know will continue to support the squad every step of the way.
“We now look forward to welcoming a strong Wantage side to The Meadow. They’ve had a great summer themselves, and with the signings they’ve made, I fully expect them to be pushing for a top-three finish.
“Let’s hope we can start the season well and take plenty of positives into what is sure to be a busy and challenging August.”
