The mysterious white discolouration in the River Frome has been revealed by the Environment Agency.

The incident this week, sparked safety fears for wild swimmers and wildlife as the white substance ran from Brimscombe towards Stonehouse.

However, the spillage has now been revealed as paint.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency told Stroud Times: “Our officers attended a site in Stroud and discovered that paint had been accidentally spilled into the water which created a white discolouration in the watercourse.

“With a fast-moving current, the paint quickly dispersed and no environmental impacts were observed.

“However, our officers have asked the site operators to produce a management plan to prevent this issue happening in future.

“If people have further concerns they should contact our 24/7 hotline on 0800 807060.”
