Chalford beset by injuries ahead of trip to Stonehouse

Closing in on the title, Gloucestershire Northern Senior League leaders Chalford are in the midst of an injury crisis ahead of the short trip to Stonehouse Reserves this afternoon, Saturday.

With six games to go, Chalford bounced back from a 1-0 defeat to Avonmouth in the in the GFA Senior Amateur Cup final on Tuesday with a resounding 7-0 victory over Smiths Barometrics on Thursday. Andy Maryon grab the scoring mantle with four goals. Jamie Lock, Jordan Measures and a Jack Hughes penalty completed the rout.

Boss Ben Powell was delighted with his side’s reaction just 48 hours after the cup final defeat: “We bounced back well after the cup final defeat,” he said.

“We made six changes and after a slow start we settled. Adam Thomas made a fantastic save that he probably shouldn’t have made – but once we got going we played good football on a tricky pitch.”

However the fixture backlog is taking its toll on Powell’s side: “We will be without Billy Thomas, Luke Barstow, Brad Moore, Freddie Wilson, Simon Loftus Jamie Lock and Andrew Roberts this afternoon,” revealed Powell.

“Stonehouse will be a tough game and they had a good result in the week and are on good form, but we have no pressure and will take one game at a time and look to see where we end up.”
