The community open space in Brimscombe being developed by Charlea Community Gardens now has an adventure play trail for children.

The project was funded by The Community Ownership Fund, Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council, and the local community through the Stroud District Council Spacehive crowdfunder.

Graham Russell, Director of Charlea Community Gardens Community Interest Company said: “This site used to be a play area before being sold by Stroud District Council to a private developer.

“After many challenges Charlea Community Gardens CIC has bought back the site and can now provide an amazing new play facility. In the first few days since opening the play trail it has been great to see children really enjoying creative play together. And we’ve discovered that our amazing ‘long table’ makes the perfect birthday party table.”

The play trail is designed to encourage imaginative play in a natural setting. The various elements of the play trail are dispersed throughout the three-acre site so that children discover them and make their own games.

The attractions include a fort with climbing wall; make a den kit; crane swing; balance beams; and a rope walk challenge.

The adventure play trail was designed and built in collaboration with Splash Community Projects who engage volunteers to undertake projects in the community.
