In a remarkable act of community solidarity, Stroud Earth Community has raised more than £200,000 to purchase the Trinity Rooms Community Hub outright, securing it as a community-owned space in perpetuity.
The fundraising target was reached over Christmas, with every pound coming from within the local community through donations large and small, fundraising events, and a shared belief in the value of the space.
Trustees are now in active negotiations with the Church to finalise the purchase. The Trinity Rooms, located in the heart of Stroud, has for several years been home to a food pantry, surplus food collections, community meals, classes, clubs and workshops, and is widely regarded as a warm and welcoming hub for people across the town and district.
Trustee and volunteer Sarah Frazer told Stroud Times: “In a world where community assets are lost to the market almost daily, the achievement stands as powerful proof of what ordinary people can accomplish when they act together. It is a testament to what becomes possible when a community refuses to leave its future to chance.”
To mark the purchase, the Trinity Rooms welcome Ian Prowse and the Fiddle of Fire on March 21.
Peter Baxendale added: “There have been many bridges to cross but we never wavered in our goal of purchasing the building for the benefit of the community.
“We will be using the Radical Hope’ tour as a night of celebration for those that still believe in Community.”
