Stroud District Council has issued an update on a £1.8 million investment to improve its largest housing block, Nouncells Cross in Stroud.
The project will upgrade 57 flats across two blocks at Nouncells Cross, and 14 properties on Bisley Old Road in Stroud. Work began in September and is expected to take up to 12 months to complete.
The upgrades include improved lighting, safer steps, new flooring, resurfaced footpaths and car park, CCTV installation, redecorated stairwells and corridors, and new fencing for the community garden.

A Stroud District Council spokesperson said: “If you’ve spotted the two bright white canopies at the top of town, here’s the story: they’re part of the major improvements works taking place at Nouncells Cross, our largest housing block – and they’re helping keep the site dry and safe while we replace the roofs underneath.
“This £1.8million investment is all about creating safer, smarter and more welcoming homes and community spaces for residents.

“Work is now in full swing – 57 flats across two blocks at Nouncells Cross will benefit from upgrades including new roofing, windows, lighting, door entry systems, CCTV, improved paths and steps, fresh decoration, new fencing for the community garden and more.
“And 14 homes on Bisley Old Road will have new cavity wall and loft insulation.

“Residents have helped shape the plans too, with new bin stores and refurbished drying areas designed to reduce clutter and energy costs.
“And because Nouncells Cross is the highest block in Stroud, our contractors are getting some incredible views across the town and surrounding valleys.”
